End-to-end: Manufacturing to shelf

Research shows that luxury goods tend to move extensively within the same geographical areas & not just internationally. Europe itself has a cross flow of high value cosmetics, handbags, designer apparels, shoes, watches & accessories. Hence an emphasis on land transport as well, using our expertise to achieve end-to-end lead time.

Changing customer behaviours with a high tourism & travel growth has spurred purchasing of luxury goods closer to their place of manufacture. This also gives an advantage in purchase decisions linked to price & wider selection plus liberty of ample time in a relaxed manner. Therefore, in this market, we base our offer on proximity and tailor-made solutions.

Land over air

To ensure door-to-door service in luxury goods transport across continents, GEODIS has set up extensive multimodal solutions combining mainly rail and road. In Western & Southern European corridor itself, we deal with over 400 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per day on GEODIS combined rail-road through Europe and the Eurasia rail network. Every year, we manage nearly a hundred thousand intermodal transport units carried by SNCF Logistics subsidiary VIIA across four rail motorways in Europe.

European land and rail transport

When we combine rail and road transport on the networks we’ve been using for over 25 years in Europe, the same unique container is always used from the shipper’s door to the consignee’s door. Whether the swap body is mounted on a tractor, semi-trailer or specific wagons, it allows for maximum shipment space optimization and security supervision in optimal conditions. For sensitive cargo, GEODIS provides monitoring and insulation at the perfect temperature.

Rail between China and Europe and cross-border trucking in Asia

GEODIS uses both the regular Northern and Southern rail routes between Asia and Europe. The key benefits include time efficiency, with lead times up to three times shorter than sea freight to Western Europe, schedule reliability with daily departures, and flexibility with late booking. These train routes know no peak season, no fuel surcharge and save dozens of days of inventory compared to ocean shipments. Rail also comes with ecological and RSE perks, as it generates 12 times less CO2 than air and 25% less than ocean. Plus, of course, GEODIS provides high-frequency, scheduled cross-border trucking in Asia, with among other services daily scheduled LTL and FTL in South East Asia & China.

North America: FTL and parcel delivery

In North America, major luxury retailers are increasing delivery requirements, creating a need for a proactive solution based on integrated transport management and freight consolidation services. These could include multi-carrier parcel or cross-customer consolidation that enable streamlined LTL/FTL, and drayage inbound shipments. Using our unique US small parcel solution, GEODIS provides consolidation, visibility, and dedicated transportation teams.

GEODIS is adapting to all requirements imposed by luxury standards and clients, delivering a very specific level of quality service and attention compared to any other market. Right on time.
