Frequently asked questions
LCL means “Less than Container Load”! With LCL, customers with smaller shipments not fully taking up a full container (FCL) can ship them together with other customers’ shipments in a consolidated container” where all smaller cargoes are combined together in the same container!
Generally, LCL is good for smaller shipments and FCL is good for bigger shipments, but you still need to consider the transit time and ocean freight market.
When combining smaller shipments from multiple customers there is no need for the customers to wait until they have enough cargo to build an own FCL container. Customers save time and money by choosing the freight type of LCL!
CFS means “Container Freight Station”. This is the place where GEODIS is consolidating and de-consolidating the individual LCL shipments at the outgoing (export) and the incoming (import) sides.
You can calculate your CBM volumes based on your cargo’s height, weight, length and width. The following formula is used to calculate the chargeable volume (Unit) of LCL shipment: Gross volume = L x W x H
