According to data from the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA EMEA*), a leading organization in the fight against cargo theft, several thousand cargo incidents are reported each year, including theft, damage, handling errors, intrusions, and damage during loading operations. In April 2023, reported losses averaged €834,367 worth of stolen goods per day across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

 

However, the actual cost of a logistics incident often far exceeds the value of the goods involved. The main risks to goods

Rail freight: The consolidation of volumes improves the reliability of long-distance shipments but requires rigorous coordination with other links in the logistics chain to secure the transfer of goods;


Multimodal transport: The main challenge lies in transshipment, i.e. the process of transferring goods from one mode of transport to another, or from one party to another. These operations result in multiple handling steps and changes in responsibility.
