DAP (Delivered At Place)

DAP means the seller bears all risks and costs until goods arrive ready for unloading at the named destination, import duties excluded.

Under Incoterms 2020, DAP suits sellers willing to control transport but not import clearance. Documentation - commercial invoice, packing list, BL/AWB, certificates of origin - must be flawless to prevent customs holds.

How does DAP differ from DDP or CIF?

  • DDP adds import formalities to seller duties
  • CIF applies only to ocean freight and shifts risk at loading

What are the common pitfalls for DAP?

  • Incorrect HS codes
  • Misaligned Incoterm in documents
  • Unclear named place
