Trade and Customs Updates
1) GEODIS USA Customs Brokerage Webinar on Section 122
The U.S. trade environment is undergoing significant upheaval following two major developments in rapid succession.
First, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled against the government’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) as a basis for imposing tariffs. This landmark decision effectively ends the administration’s ability to leverage IEEPA for future tariff actions.
Almost simultaneously, the Administration has introduced a sweeping new 10% global import surcharge under Section 122, which took effect on February 24, 2026. This sudden move is set to impact importers across all sectors, fundamentally altering duty obligations and raising the stakes for compliance and financial planning.
To help the industry navigate these historic changes, Alan Klestadt of Grunfeld, Desiderio, Lebowitz, Silverman & Klestadt LLP (GDLSK) joined the G Team as a special guest to provide expert insights into the implications for entry procedures and risk management during a webinar on Thursday, February 26, 2025.

2) GEODIS Market Advisory Webpage Provides Information on Removal of IEEPA and new Section 122 Tariffs
Please visit the GEODIS Market Advisory webpage for the latest news on the removal of IEEPA and implementation of Section 122 duties. The page provides insightful information on the new Section 122 HTS and exemptions. It also provides guidance on what importers should be looking to do now to prepare for the IEEA tariff refunds. 3) USDA Postpones Planned Cotton Fee Reduction Following Public Comment
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) announced a delay in the implementation of a planned reduction in the cotton fee, which was originally set to take effect on March 1.
The postponement comes after the agency received a single public comment criticizing the changes that were published in December. In response, the USDA stated it will update the Import Assessment Table before moving forward with the fee reduction.
